Hi — I’m Russ.
Shared Signal Radio is a personal radio project built out of two lifelong interests: music and technology.
I’m a 70s kid, a long-time geek, and a former IT support veteran who eventually traded burnout for something I genuinely enjoy: learning, experimenting, and building things because they’re interesting — not because they’re billable. These days I run an eBay store focused on vintage, retro, and estate-sale finds, which scratches the same itch I’ve always had for discovery, nostalgia, and curiosity. This station comes from that same place.
I’ve always loved music, across genres. I enjoy digging for new sounds just as much as revisiting old favorites. About a year ago I started collecting vinyl, which only deepened that relationship — slowing down, listening more intentionally, and appreciating music as something physical and imperfect again. Shared Signal Radio grew out of that love, paired with a desire to build something hands-on and technical.
From a tech perspective, this site and stream are very much a learning playground. I wanted a real project where I could dive deeper into server administration, Linux, coding, streaming infrastructure, and all the small details that come with running something end-to-end. Nothing here is outsourced or automated for polish’s sake — it’s meant to be understood, tweaked, and improved over time.
Musically, the goal is cross-genre and open-minded. My personal tastes aren’t a hard filter. I’m interested in discovery, variety, and letting different sounds coexist — even ones that aren’t always “my thing.” The station isn’t about curating a perfect identity; it’s about exploration.
Just as important as what you’ll hear is the kind of space this is meant to be. Shared Signal Radio is intended to be a welcoming, safe place for everyone, especially for people who don’t always feel centered elsewhere. Being under the LGBT+ umbrella myself is part of why creating a space that feels open, respectful, and safe matters to me. That includes explicit support for LGBT+ folks and minority communities. This isn’t a political site, and it isn’t meant to be a debate space — but it is values-driven. Respect, curiosity, and inclusion aren’t optional here.
I’d love for this to slowly grow into a small, genuine community — listeners who are curious, kind, and open to discovery, whether that’s music, radio, or the tech behind it. No hype, no ads, no services being sold. Just signals, shared.
If you’re listening, thanks for being here.
An inclusive, personal radio project. Everyone welcome.
